The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati has assured Kenyans there is nothing to worry about over the different results being streamed by TV stations.

Speaking at Bomas of Kenya on Thursday, August 11, Chebukati explained that the IEBC granted media houses access to the portal to allow them tally the results after polls closed on Tuesday, August 9.

However, according to the electoral body boss, media houses chose to work independently, informing their different results.

Chebukati noted that each media is accessing the result forms at different times and using its own criteria and sequencing in tallying and transmitting the same to the public.

“They are all getting the results from the same portal. Soon the figures will read the same.

“We hope media houses will end up with the same figures. The original intention was that media houses would have a consortium report of the progress of election results from one source. However, media houses opted to do it independently," Chebukati stated.

He, however, told the public that the final declaration of the results will be done by the national Returning Officer, as required by law.

“We hope the results at media houses will look similar because they are from the same portal," he stated.

IEBC signed an MOU with media on March 4, 2022, to collaborate to provide objective coverage of transmitting results.

Chebukati stated that Returning Officers had begun arriving at the Bomas of Kenya and the uploading of Form 34A was at 99.84 per cent representing 46,156 polling stations.

“Results including in areas which used manual voter register have all transmitted all the form 34 As except two in Malava,” Chebulati stated.

“We shall endeavour to announce the results as soon as possible and I want to thank Kenyans for exercising patient as you wait for the results,” he added.
