Four Cabinet Secretaries who resigned from their lucrative state jobs to try their hands in politics have been shown the door.

The four resigned in February 2022 with the aim of clinching elective positions in Gubernatorial capacities in various counties across the country.

Two of the CSs did not make it passed the primaries stage while two, who made it to the ballot, lost the race.

Former Petroleum Cabinet Secretary, John Munyes, already conceded defeat to his competitor, Jeremiah Lomurkai, in a press conference in Turkana county.

He wished the newly elected governor the best and challenged him to provide proper leadership to the people of Turkana county.

"The purpose of this conference is to tell the world that I wish to concede this defeat and congratulate the winner of the gubernatorial seat in Turkana county, Hon Jeremiah Lomurkai, for his victory.

"I gave the fight, the election was peaceful in Turkana despite small logistical challenges in some few areas. All-in-all, I think that has been decided. Mine is to wish those who have won better leadership that they serve the Turkana people," he stated.

Munyes quit his position on Tuesday, February 8, alongside his Energy counterpart Charles Keter who was, at the time, seeking to become the next governor of Kericho county.

Keter was, however, unsuccessful in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party primaries held in April 2022 and conceded defeat to Erick Mutai.

Keter had only garnered 60,342 votes against Mutai who had 126,038 votes. He opted not to pursue the seat further.

Adan Mohammed, who served as the CS for East African Community in the Cabinet headed by President Uhuru Kenyatta, also conceded defeat in the Mandera gubernatorial race.

A source on the ground confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that Mohammed held a press briefing to concede defeat although the official results are year to be announced.

Former Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki, also departed her state job with the aim of launching her bid for the Nyandarua gubernatorial seat.

Towards the end of April, however, she dropped out of the race explaining that her decision was informed by a number of consultations with top leaders in the Jubilee Party, a faction led by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"It’s been a lot of soul searching, consultation after another and I finally decided to sacrifice," Kariuki stated at the time.
