  • An autopsy report has revealed that the slain Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) staff Daniel Musyoka was strangled to death.

A team of five pathologists who were deployed at Oloitokitok Sub-County Hospital Mortuary operated on his body before giving the report.

Among those who witnessed the post mortem were his family members, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and IEBC officials.

The pathologists also carried to Nairobi some components for further forensic investigations.

Musyoka, 53, was assigned to Embakasi East Constituency as the Returning Officer in the Tuesday, August 9 elections.

However, the country was shocked after reports of his disappearance broke on August 11. Musyoka’s body would later be discovered at the Amboseli National Park on Monday, August 15.

His body exhibited signs of torture and was naked at the time of discovery, according to police reports.

On Wednesday, August 17, IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati weighed in on the matter condemning the perpetrators of the slain officer.

According to Chebukati, Musyoka’s death was occasioned by his firm stand to uphold integrity in the electoral process. The IEBC chair also assured the late Musyoka's family of support during preparations for his burial.

"The commission is saddened by the murder of its Returning Officer for Embakasi East, Daniel Musyoka, and expressed its deepest condolences to the family and friends," reads the statement.

"It is unfortunate that his stand to do the right thing cost his life. As the commission consoles with the family, we call on security agencies to apprehend his killers."

Embakasi East MP-elect Babu Owino and his rival Daniel Mureithi have called for a probe into the matter. Babu Owino was declared the winner in the constituency with 57,410 votes while Mureithi came in second with 29,104.
