The political battle has now shifted to corridors of justice. The Supreme Court will from Monday, August 22 be a legal battleground after Azimio leader Raila Odinga challenged William Ruto's win.

The face-off attracts a battery of well seasoned legal minds, literllay the who is who in matters law as they argue out their case.

Odinga has assembled a team of lawyers, which has an uphill task of convincing thet top Court to overturn the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission - IEBC's decision.

Pheroze Nowrojee

Nowrojee has practiced law since 1965 a year after Kenya attained her independence under the country's first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

He was also part of the team which represented NASA coalition in 2017 when the then coalition leader Raila Odinga challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta's election win.

The 82-year-old lawyer has been lecturer of Law at the University of Dar es Salaam, the University of Nairobi (UoN), and the Kenya School of Law (KSL). He once served as an Editor of the Eastern Africa Law Review.

Philip Murgor

Philip Chirchir Murgor has represented the Kenyan government in high-voltage cases dating back in the era of the late President Daniel arap Moi. He was appointed to the legal team that defended Moi in election petitions filed after the first multiparty general elections in 1992.

In 2008, he represented the the government in the Grand Regency Scandal on the sale of the Grand Regency Hotel.  In 2011, he became the 10th Kenyan Lawyer and the 568th in the world to be admitted as a legal practitioner at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In 2003 when the late President Mwai Kibaki became ascended to power, he immediately appointed Murgor to the Goldenberg scandal cases as a lead lawyer to fight corruption. A month later, Murgor climbed a lader to become Kenya's Public Prosecutor, currently known as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

James Orengo

James Aggrey Orengo is among a few lawyers in the country who have attained the level of Seniour Counsel, a fete he attained during former president Mwai Kibaki.

He played a critical role during the first and second term as Senator in Uhuru's government when he criticised the ruling administration on various occassions.

Orengo is famously known for his quote “Sometimes revolutions eat their own children… governments eat their own people. This government is going to punish you more than they will punish me, I am telling you."

He was elected Ugenya MP under KANU ticket in 1980 to become the youngest legislature in the country at the time, aged 35.

Alongside his long-time friend Raila, they both fought for multyparty democracy in Kenya during the imperial regime of Daniel Moi.

He is the current Governor-elect, Siaya County and represented Raila in the 2017 presidential petition against Uhuru in which he won.

Otiende Amollo

Amolo is an MP-elect of Rarienda Constituency. The soft spoken legislature once served as an Ombudsman.

Otiende came into the limelight in 2017 when he successfully defended Raila's case against Jubilee at the Supreme Court to overturn Uhuru's win.

Tom Ojienda

Ojiena is an advocate of the High Court with a career spanning 25 years. He successfully vouched his bid to become Kisumu Senator in the just concluded general election.

He spent his teenage years in Machakos where he did his A level. During an interview with the Standard Newspaper, Ojienda stated that he wanted to be a pilot but his father convinced him to become a lawyer.

Paul Mwangi

Mwangi is known as the most trusted lawyers of former premier Odinga and serves him as Senior legal advisor. He also formed part of the team that represented NASA in 2017 presidential election petition.

He features on the Daily Nation as an author who has published 1, 634 articles cutting across all journalistic fields from Opinion pieces to sports.

The hearing of the high-stake case will take a record three days before the judges retreat to write their judgement.

President-elect, William Ruto's side will have four days to file and serve a response after Azimio petition. 

The Supreme Court will have 14 days to make a judgement.
