By the time of this publishing, IEBC led by Wafula Chebukati had not issued a statement on the mysterious death of one of its officials.

Gitobu - who played a critical role in the August 9 General Election - is said to have visited the Nanyuki IEBC offices to print some forms when the unfortunate happened.

A police report indicated that the cause of his death was not immediately identified and that an autopsy would be conducted to reveal the cause.

Laikipia County DCI boss Onesmus Towett dispelled reports that Gitobu was murdered, maintaining that it was sudden death.

"We have received a report that an IEBC officer has been murdered in Nanyuki. That is not the position. The case was reported at around 2:38 pm, and it was the sudden death of someone who collapsed in town."

"He was rushed to the hospital, and it was there that he was confirmed dead," Towett stated.

His death comes just days after Embakasi East Returning Officer, Daniel Mbolu Musyoka, was found murdered in Kajiado county.

According to Oloitokitok police boss, Kipruto Ruto, the deceased's body was identified by his sister at the Oloitokitok sub-county mortuary.

Detectives are still investigating the heinous murder after CCTV footage showed his last moments before vanishing.

According to the CCTV footage, Musyoka was last seen speaking to a rider on Church Road, Tassia, in the Embakasi East constituency.

On the motorbike was a pillion passenger who also engaged the IEBC official for a while before leaving.

Musyoka stood at the same spot for one minute, 28 seconds, during which he received a phone call. He then left with the time stamp of the video reading 11.30am, August 11.

The police launched a manhunt for the rider and pillion passengers captured in the footage.

Already, the Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji, directed the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, to expedite the probe and forward the findings within seven days.

"You are  directed to undertake comprehensive investigations into the matter and submit the resultant investigation file within seven days thereof," Haji stated.
