Amason Jeffah Kingi, the newly elected Speaker of the Senate, is set to enjoy hefty perks and allowances as prescribed by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
Kingi, who won the Senate speaker seat by garnering a total of 46 out 67 votes, will be entitled to Ksh1,160,000 monthly gross salary.
The former Kilifi governor will also be provided with an official residence which will be fitted with all utilities and home attendants.
"The official residence shall be a physical building/house owned by the government. The benefit shall not be commuted to cash in lieu of an official residence," SRC notice read in part.
He will also be entitled to 24 hours security protection which shall be determined by the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai.
Kingi, who was fronted by Kenya Kwanza Coalition led by President-elect William Ruto, will also be entitled to a personal car loan of up to Ksh10 million.
On top of that, Kingi, who served as the Minister of Fisheries Development from 2010 to 2013 under the late President Mwai Kibaki's government, will also have access to a mortgage of up to Ksh40 million.
"The car loan and mortgage shall be administered and managed centrally by the Parliamentary Service Commission within existing applicable regulations to govern the schemes, and subject to the availability of funds," the SRC notice read.
His monthly mobile phone airtime will be worth Ksh25,000. The former Magarini Member of Parliament will also be entitled to a medical cover of up to Ksh10 million. It will cover his wife and children below 20 years old.
Upon finishing his term as the senate speaker, Kingi will also receive a hefty retirement package which SRC will decide.
However, he will not be entitled to plenary sitting allowances after SRC abolished allowances enjoyed by previous lawmakers.
Other benefits will be accorded to him according to guidelines issued by SRC and proposal from the Parliamentary Service Commission.
