Mt Kenya Foundation has pledged to work with President-elect William Ruto's administration days after the Supreme Court upheld his victory.
In a joint statement with the Gema Cultural Association (GCA) on Friday, September 9, the tycoons from the vote-rich region noted that the election period was over and that the country needed to move forward.
Present at the presser was the Mt Kenya foundation chairperson Peter Munga and GCA Rev Lawi Imathiu. Also present was former Water Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki.
"We take this opportunity to congratulate the president-elect and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua for their election to the presidency and we promise to support his government and pray that God will help him fulfil the vision for our great nation," read the statement in part.
Further, the group called on the incoming Head of State to prioritise the unity of the country as his predecessor President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"As a father would do, we expect the president-elect will develop the country equally. All elected leaders should address the issues of drought and high cost of living that are affecting Kenyans."
In regard to their support for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in concluded polls, the group maintained that they believed in the candidature of the Azmio presidential candidate.
The group further explained that the handshake between Uhuru and Raila in March 2018 brought the country so much solace at a time of difficulty.
“We appreciate their (Raila and Martha Karua) immense contribution to the democratisation process of this country," they lauded Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate and his running mate for their pursuit of justice.
Rigathi Gachagua had urged the group to collaborate with Ruto's government which he said would accommodate everyone, including those who opposed their presidential bid.
"I want to welcome those in the Mt Kenya Foundation who were against Ruto's leadership. Come build Kenya with us," Gachagua stated then.
