Twitter has dismissed a report filed by a user against CNN's Larry Madowo's recent coverage of Queen Elizabeth II's death.
Titled Queen Elizabeth was not universally loved in Africa, Madowo had included reports on colonialism, fairytales, and how a section of Africans refused to mourn the death of the longest-serving Monarch.
After a thorough review of the content in question, the social media platform concluded that none of the platform's regulations and guidelines had been violated.
"We have investigated the reported content and have found that it is not subject to removal under the Twitter Rules," read part of the email from Twitter shared by the journalist on Saturday, September 10.
The veteran journalist in the news item highlighted the mixed feelings from Africans following the death of Queen Elizabeth.
Responding to the report filed against him, Madowo lamented that "Some people don’t like it when Africans tell their own (his) stories."
In the news item, Madowo included sentiments from African leaders including Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and Kenya's President-elect William who eulogised the Queen when she passed away on Thursday night, September 8 night.
"My family and I, and the more than 200 million Nigerians, have learned with immense sadness of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, and the end of her unique and wonderful 70-year reign. She was the only British Sovereign known to 90 per cent of our population," Buhari remarked.
"I have received news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II and I send condolences to the people of the United Kingdom. The queen’s leadership of the Commonwealth for the past seven decades is admirable," Ruto stated.
Additionally, a section of freedom fighters from South Africa, the Economic Freedom Fighters, was also featured declining to celebrate the Queen, citing the difficult years when their country was under colonization by the British colonialists.
Twitter has laid out regulations monitoring the content shared on the platform to promote free and fair conversations.
