President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated employees at the party headquarters to serve in various county assemblies.

Lydia Jeptoo, a cook, is one of the lucky few nominated for a member of a county assembly's seat in Nandi.

Jeptoo was part of the hospitality department which prepared meals for all party officials.

The subordinate staff was sceptical of clinching the seat while submitting her name for nomination and the reward caught her by a surprise.

"We were told to make the application but I did not know I would make it. It was a surprise when I was told that my name was on the list. I'm grateful and I look forward to venturing into elective politics in the future," Jeptoo remarked.

Evans Kipyegon also made it to the nomination list. In 2020, Kipyegon joined the party as a cleaner before he was promoted to a messenger.

"I used to deliver letters to the Registrar of Political Parties, purchasing commodities, and doubling up as a storekeeper," the nominated MCA for Baringo stated.

In a surprise twist of events, Everlyn Korir who volunteered to work in the front office in 2021 was also nominated for a seat in Baringo County.

After completing her education, in January 2021, Korir scouted for jobs before she was enrolled as a volunteer at UDA's offices in Makindu Road, Nairobi.

"It was a surprise when I saw my name. I thank the party officials for trusting me with the position and I promise to deliver for the residents of Baringo," she commented.

Two other subordinate staff, Beatrice Chepkemoi and Noelas Omollo were rewarded with MCA seats in Kericho to represent gender and special interest groups.

Additionally, on Friday, September UDA 16, Tony Marubu, a boda rider was nominated to be an MCA  in the Murang'a County Assembly.
