Former George Wajackoyah's running mate Justina Wamae has officially resigned from the Roots Party.
In a statement on Thursday, September 22, Justina stated that her role as Wajackoyah's running mate ended when the Supreme Court upheld President William Ruto's win.
"My role as Roots Party of Kenya Presidential Running mate lapsed with the declaration of H.E President William Ruto and H.E Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on the 16th of August 2022 and subsequent upholding of the election by the Supreme court of Kenya on the 5th of September 2022," read part of her statement.
"In this regard, I tender my resignation as a member of the Roots Party of Kenya. Kindly accord the ORPP the requirements for my name's prompt removal from your party register," the statement read on.
"A party is not entitled to funding if they do not have elected members. The hostility besides the project was that MIZIZI will benefit from the fund. I have voluntarily resigned they can now eat HOT AIR. Watch this space," Justina stated.
Wamae has been in a power struggle with the party leader who recently appointed a new deputy leader for the party.
"This Office acknowledges receipt of your letter dated 22 September 2022 on the above subject matter and duly notes the content therein," stated Ann Nderitu, Registrar of Political Parties in a statement dated Thursday, September 22.
Justina had initially refused to resign and claimed it will haunt her career as it has former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe and Azimio La Umoja Coalition running mate Martha Karua.
"I will not resign because I don't want Martha Karua's burden of resigning and being told that she left Kibaki, just like Igathe after he was told he left Sonko. I will wait for Wajackoyah to dismiss me," she stated on August 26.
Wajackoyah had also summoned Wamae in August for her alleged misrepresentation of the party.
"The party would like to address you that you have continuously and maliciously misrepresented the position of the party and that of the party leader having blocked him and other party officials.
"That you have in your utterances contradicted yourself on Citizen Digital and the KTN and recounted the contradiction hence your allegiance to the party manifesto is questionable," read part of the Roots Party statement dated Monday, August 22.
Wamae who had adamantly refused to honour the summons eventually presented herself noting that she respected the rule of law.
"I will not respond to pettiness!" she exclaimed.
The two seemingly fell out after the legal scholar appeared to support Azimio leader Raila Odinga in the run-up to the general election.
Wajackoyah, who came a distant third in the presidential race, with his party getting no single seat, was at one point branded a project.
Justina has openly declared her support for the current administration led by president Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
