Badi Receives Lifetime Award Days to NMS Handover to Sakaja

Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director General Mohamed Badi received a Life Governorship Award on Wednesday, September 28.

Badi, who former President Uhuru Kenyatta installed to help streamline Nairobi County operations, was awarded by the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK).

The military man was feted for his exemplary leadership that helped in staging and the success of the ASK and the Nairobi International Trade Fair.

Badi was also celebrated for anchoring Nairobi to become a city of investors through proper implementation of functions and delivery of services.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua presented the award to Badi in the presence of other leaders and business persons.

"Badi was feted for his exemplary performance in implementation of county functions, making Nairobi a city of choice to invest in," NMS statement read in part.

The award came just a day after Badi hosted Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and his deputy James Njoroge at International Trade Fair at Jamhuri Park Showgrounds.

The trade fair resumed on Monday, September 26, after a two-year break. The seven-day exhibition is a convergence point for trade, commerce and knowledge sharing in both the agriculture and trade sectors.

Badi is expected to officially hand over the city functions to Sakaja on Friday, September 30. 

"On Friday 30 September, 2022, the Nairobi Metropolitan Services, Director General, Lt. General Mohammed Badi will formally hand over all funtions as per the Deed of Transfer to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja," NMS stated.

The deed of transfer was signed on February 25, 2020, by then Governor Mike Sonko and then Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, with the blessings of Uhuru.

NMS took over Health, Transport, Public works and Planning and Development Services from Nairobi county.

His achievements include rehabilitating Uhuru and Central Park, building Nairobi Central Park, hospitals, setting up markets and cleaning the city.
