Meru governor, Kawira Mwangaza, has stated that her husband, Murega Baichu, deserves more than the two county jobs she offered him on Friday, September 30.

The county boss appointed her husband as the patron of Meru Youth Service (MYS) and the Ambassador to Meru's hustlers. She, however, clarified that the husband won't be paid a salary nor allowances while discharging the said duties.

"You agreed to sacrifice yourself and decided to selflessly work without pay and allowances. By accepting my ambassadorial appointment you have proved to be a selfless gentleman. I know you deserve much more than this," Kawira penned a message to her husband Saturday, October 1.

Baichu, she added, was a key pillar during her campaigns and his services will assist in the growth and development of the county.

She emphasised the need to have her spouse in the team to help empower youths from poor backgrounds under the Meru Youth Service (MYS).

"I would be a hypocrite if I did not ask for your support as I govern Meru county especially due to the manner in which you singlehandedly supported me during my campaigns - with no posters, banners, or billboards," Kawira added.

Additionally, the governor vowed to deliver to the people of Meru promising to achieve more as governor compared to her tenure as the women representative.

“There will be no conflict of interest just as when I served you as the women representative and delivered beyond a reasonable doubt. I will deliver as your governor,” she announced.

Kawira offered her husband the two jobs while unveiling her Cabinet.

"His excellency first gentleman Murega of Meru County currently holds the ambassadorial role by the Ministry of Tourism.

"Today we are giving him a job without pay and allowances. He will be a volunteer in the docket of Meru Youth Service," she declared.

The appointments, however, attracted criticism far and wide with a section of Kenyans accusing her of conflict of interest. '

Others urged her to offer such jobs to the youth rather than her family members.
