Officials of Mumbai Airport Customs on Thursday, September 29 arrested a Kenyan passenger after she was found in possession of Cocaine.

The female passenger from Kenya who had arrived at Mumbai Airport was apprehended by officials at the Airport with cocaine worth Ksh72 million.

According to a customs official, the seized cocaine was found ingeniously concealed in a special cavity made in her footwear after a thorough search was conducted.

The official said the woman was intercepted at the Airport after intelligence was shared prompting a  thorough search, during which cocaine was recovered.

A total of 490 grams of cocaine was recovered before she was arrested and sent to judicial custody.

In December 2021, Customs Officials at the Mumbai Airport detained 18 Kenyan women with 4kg of gold for allegedly smuggling the precious metal from Sharjah.

According to reports, the detained women had also concealed the gold in their undergarments, spice bottles and footwear.

On Wednesday, September 28, Ethiopian officials arrested an individual who had travelled from Kenya with Ksh1.7 billion worth of cocaine.

The suspect had also successfully smuggled the illegal drug from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.

Kenya has strict and punitive laws provided under the Drugs Narcotics and Psychotropic substance that was enacted in 1961 to control the possession and trafficking of Narcotic drugs and Psychotropic substances.

Further, the Act provides for penalties ranging from 20 years in prison to life imprisonment or fines of twenty million Kenya shillings.
