Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on Tuesday, October 4, assured the family of his late brother, Jack Reriani that he would step in and take care of them.
Speaking during the funeral service in Mathira, Nyeri County, Gachagua explained that he felt indebted to Reriani, and was only returning a favor that his family's needs would be met despite his absence.
Gachagua also revealed the pivotal role his brother played in his life- attributing his current position to his elder brother who made it possible for him to continue with his education.
"As we escort my brother, I have a debt of gratitude to him and I will make sure that his wife and children, whatever way that God can help me to see you through, I will do it," Gachagua reiterated.
The DP gave a moving eulogy of his elder brother, recounting how Reriani sacrificed to put him through school when his parents were unable to. He added that working with the late Ndiritu Gachagua, they ensured that siblings were educated.
"Jack was the eldest son and is a man we all hold in high regard. My parents educated Jack and the late Nderitu Gachagua and told them to educate the rest of us - in a family of nine, we had seven graduates.
"My parents my siblings and I to Jack and he paid my school fees from Form One to form Six, and I am grateful for having an opportunity to thank him for taking me through school," Gachagua remarked.
The country's second-in-command, now the only surviving brother, asked the family to remain united terming Reriani's passing as the will of God.
Gachagua reminisced his upbringing as a child in a home where he had many siblings. In a light moment, the DP wished that he had more children to overcome the lonely times he and Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi sometimes felt at their home.
While eulogising her husband, Cecilia Reriani, revealed that in their last conservation, Reriani reminded her that she was the glue that held her family together and asked her to ensure that the family remained closely knit.
The late Jack Reriani passed away on Sunday, September 25, barely two weeks after the DP's inauguration to office. However, the two spend three days together ahead of the event.
