A contractor in Nyandarua county will be forced to return Ksh 450 million paid by the former county government after the latest directive by governor Moses, Kiarie Badilisha.

According to Badilisha, the contractor in question received payment but failed to deliver.

Additionally, the Ksh500 million equipment acquired for road construction had been reportedly been left unattended.

"The consultant was illegally being paid per kilometre of road constructed using the county roads equipment for no services offered," Badilisha lamented.

"I have received a report from Isuzu Kenya on the state of the equipment and it will be revived to serve the residents," he added.

On top of this directive, the governor cancelled the contract and assured Nyandarua residents of a way forward to improve service delivery.

The mega-equipment had been procured through grants from the World Bank after a good review of the county management compared to other counties.

Reportedly, the contractor had received over Ksh150 million per year from the former governor Francis Kimemia and Ksh68 million paid upfront.

"The documents in our possession indicate that he was receiving more than Ksh150 million annually for the consultancy, this amount must be recovered," Badilisha declared.

Conclusively, the county boss reiterated that the era of county equipment being used for private work had come to an end noting that taxpayers' money will be put to good use.

Notably in Nairobi, the Kenya Highways Authority (KenHA) had directed the contractor of the Thika Superhighway to repair disturbing cracks along the Eastern Bypass.

"This is Ruiru overpass on Thika superhighway, It's been splitting apart slowly by slowly. Hope action will be taken before a catastrophic occurrence," read the caption of the alarming video that lead to the directive.
