According to images seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the vehicle's bonnet was detached, revealing the chassis of the car.

Efforts to contact the area police station were futile as calls went unanswered. The area within the Kerio Valley belt is prone to banditry attacks.

The government, in the recent past, stepped up efforts to curb insecurity, from the deployment of a multi-unit agency to summoning the area governors for discussions.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua promised to take up the role of resolving security issues, to allow his boss, President William Ruto to focus on reviving the economy.

“Give us two to three weeks to have Cabinet and principal secretaries for Interior who know what they are doing.

"We shall deal with Kerio Valley insecurity decisively,” Gachagua stated during the burial of Baringo Deputy Governor, Charles Kipng'ok in September 2022.

President Ruto later nominated former Tharaka Nithi senator, Professor Kithure Kindiki, as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior.
