Nyandarua Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) caused a fracas after they travelled to Mombasa uninvited in pursuit of Ksh15,000 daily allowances.

According to the county speaker, Stephen Waiganjo, the number of MCAs at the induction event surpassed the 21 expected.

Reports detailed that some MCAs flew while others travelled by bus to the city.

He additionally, stated that during the meeting meant to induct the lawmakers, the culprits were just loitering and merrymaking rather than participating in the stipulated activities.

"I was shocked to see the big crowd against my expectations. I expected a few departmental heads to join us," Waiganjo remarked.

Following the mishap, the county assembly speaker has called for immediate investigations into the case.

He further claimed he was unaware of the process used to select the members of the county assembly.

"I had been in that office for two days since we were elected as I was out with other MCAs handling other issues including the elections of the House leadership," he explained.

Also, questions arose over why some of the staff travelled by bus while others flew to Mombasa.

The induction exercise was aimed at equipping county lawmakers with the requisite knowledge, skills, and tools that will help them debate legislative issues in the house.

One of the MCAs echoed the speaker's words and called for an investigation.

“The assembly and the County Assembly Public Service Board must investigate and let us understand how the staff was selected," the MCA stated.
