County officials in Meru county who misuse county vehicles have been put on notice by governor Kawira Mwangaza.
Kawira condemned acts by the officials who she accused of using public vehicles to visit nightclubs and other entertainment joints past official work hours.
In a bid to curb the heinous act, the governor promised to reward whistleblowers with Ksh10,000.
"As for you, the public anywhere you see a Meru County Government car parked in a club at night, send me the report and we give you Ksh10,000," she announced while speaking in Mitunguu on Friday, October 7.
The governor was shocked by the careless and oblivious behaviour of county officials who also misuse resources.
"To those assigned county government vehicles, our drivers should not be taken to clubs in the wee hours," she cautioned, adding that all drivers ought to go home after their shifts are over.
The Ksh10,000 prize money was further extended to whistleblowers reporting corrupt officials. Mwangaza stated that she was hell-bent on ending graft in the county.
The move aims to reduce loopholes in county revenue collections that hinder service delivery and increases mistrust.
Among the officials she wants to be reported are staff taking bribes and harassing business people in Meru.
"If you report any thief of public resources you will get the Ksh10,000. I will ensure every coin is accounted for," she assured.
Earlier she had hinted at establishing an undercover team that will trail staff to weed out absenteeism and corruption.
