An investigative journalist Parselelo Ole Kantai clarified that he had not gone missing but intentionally decided to go under the radar.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, October 11, Kantai stated that he was working on a sensitive piece, which required him to maintain a very low profile.

He explained that revealing his whereabouts would compromise him and sabotage his assignment given the current risks associated with investigative journalism.

"It would be counter productive for me to disclose what I was working in and what led me to go offline last week, despite the security implications of this decision and the tremendous fears it triggered.

"It is a very precarious moment for journalists looking beneath the rocks of official narratives in this country and worldwide. People like me do not usually come back," Kantai stated.

However, he expressed remorse over the panic he brought upon the members of his immediate family and colleagues who had tirelessly looked for him.

"I am very sorry. I made a grave error in judgement in not telling anyone, my family in particular, about my movements.

"I am yet to grasp the full magnitude of the extreme lengths that my family and close friends went to in looking for me; it is a debt that I can never repay," the journalist noted.

Kantai went viral after his family members, including, Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Communications Director Wallace Kantai expressed concerns over his safety after he went offline over a prolonged period of time.

His sister, Resson Duff, noted that according to his diary, he was to attend a meeting in Upper Hill but became unreachable. She maintained that he was in the right state of mind and health when he disappeared.

Media personality Terryanne Chebet and exiled Canadian Lawyer Miguna Miguna shared the missing person's poster on their social media pages to spread the word on the journalist's vanishing.

However, Wallace announced that he had been found safe and re-united with his family.
