Wiper party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka faulted the ruling made by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula where Kenya Kwanza was declared the majority coalition.

In a press briefing at the SKM Command Centre on Tuesday, October 11, Kalonzo advised his long-term friend not to be swayed by voices that would lead him astray.

He added that his decisions occasioned disharmony in the country.

Kalonzo gave the way forward of Azimio-OKA, noting that the coalition would contest Wetangula's ruling in court.

"We are going to court to go against that ruling of my friend, Wetangula. He's still my friend even though he occasions disharmony in the country. He knows it, so we're ruling against that so we don't do certain things."

"So Wetangula please, don't be manipulated. You're my friend and we have a history from the times we were tear-gassed together. Don't forget your friend. We must stand for what is truthful and just in this country," he stated.

In addition, the Wiper party leader castigated President William Ruto's decision to lift the ban of genetically modified foods. He pointed out that scientific data showed grey areas in regard to the safety of GMO consumption.

Kalonzo called on Ruto to reconsider his decision and involve public participation for the benefit of all citizens.

"I'm calling on William to reconsider for the sake of this country because a leader is one who says he is properly guided so let's discuss. But to lift the ban and go to Tanzania the following day, then you talk about lack of maize and other products," he noted.

Kalonzo also urged religious leaders to be vocal and keep the government in check and not be silent when Kenyans are suffering.

"We are surprised by the silence of the church which was once against GMOs. Could it be that they are pacified by the new administration? We urge our religious leaders not to sell their souls but to speak the truth to power," Kalonzo pointed out.

Minutes after the press briefing, the Atheists In Kenya Society released a statement, welcoming Ruto's decision to lift the GMO ban.

"Biotechnology can help us develop new, more resilient crop varieties that are better able to survive these changing conditions."

"GMOs, combined with improved conventional farming methods and new biological crop protection products will help us meet the food security challenges we are facing," read part of a statement signed by Harrison Mumia, President, Atheists in Kenya Society.
