Siaya senator, Oburu Oginga on Sunday, October 23, castigated the media for the extensive coverage of outspoken lawyer Miguna Miguna's return after nearly five years in exile.

Speaking at a church service in Nyanza region, Oburu claimed that Miguna did not have the required numerical backing to woo the voters and become the Luo Kingpin.

Oburu posed a query why the media shifted their focus to Miguna's homecoming despite him unsuccessfully vying in past elections.

"That man came here to contest for the Nyando seat, he got only 20 votes. He went for governor seat in Nairobi, he almost got nothing. Now the press is treating him as if he's next to God. But Miguna Miguna you are nothing," Oburu stated.

In a rejoinder, Miguna wondered why the Senator lashed out at him over the media press coverage that he received during his grand return.

The lawyer poked holes at the Odinga family over claims of imposing the family to the residents in a bid to extend the family legacy.

In the past five years, the outspoken lawyer took issue with the Uhuru Kenyatta administration and faulted the Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga for allegedly collaborating with the former president to have him forcefully removed from Kenya.

Oburu's remarks came after the lawyer, in an interview with NTV, stated that he was ready to liberate the Luo Nation. "I am going to play a pivotal role in the liberation of the Luo Nation," Miguna told Joe Ageyo during the live show.

The return of Miguna further appears to have rattled Raila Odinga's political backyard amid simmering revolution.

The 2022 elections saw a number of politicians from Odinga's home turf defy him, by either running as independent candidates or on other parties, other than the Orange democratic Movement, ODM.

President William Ruto is also keen on hiving off part of the Luo vote from Odinga's grip. His schemes have been manifested through post poll pacts with parties from the Nyanza region.

For instance, Ugenya MP David Ochieng's Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party ditched Azimio for Kenya Kwanza, in what was seen as Ruto's plan to bolster his numbers, by eating into Odinga's political acreage.

On Monday, October 24, Miguna, who fell out with the Odingas in 2018, refused to grace an interview on Standard Group's Spice FM over claims that the station attempted to gag him.

"I've appeared on TV and radio for the past 30 years but not once has a media house - including Standard Kenya and KTN News asked me to sign a blanket indemnity form."

"Spice FM has never asked any of its previous guests to sign the ridiculous form they tried to force on me," Miguna noted.
