Raila Odinga's presidential Campaign Secretariat spokesperson, Makau Mutua, chided Kenyans celebrating former United Kingdom chancellor Rishi Sunak, who is poised to become the country's next Prime Minister

Makau, a law scholar, argued that it was hypocritical for Kenyans to honour Sunak and the 44th President of the United States, who achieved historical fetes by rising to lead their countries, yet they reject other communities from leading Kenya.

He particularly raised his concerns with the Defence Cabinet Secretary nominee, Aden Duale, who led the celebrations.

"Kenyans rightly celebrated when Barack Obama became US President. Today, they rightly celebrate when Rishi Sunak becomes PM of UK."

"But can a Luo or Indian become the President of Kenya? Why celebrate others while denying ours the same opportunities in Kenya? I am asking Aden Duale," he posed.

Duale, in an earlier post, had celebrated Sunak's victory, acknowledging his roots in Kenya. He took pride in Sunak becoming a key political figure to change the course of history and cement his legacy.

The Defence CS nominee celebrated Sunak's background and his young status, pointing out that he was the youngest to occupy the office in over two centuries.

"Tracing his roots to our beloved country Kenya, Sunak is among the many prominent personalities we, as a nation, can take pride in. I join other Kenyans and the world in congratulating him."

"At 42, he is a man of many firsts. Sunak is the first person of colour and the youngest to occupy the office in over two centuries. Coincidentally, as if a gift of Light on this Diwali Festival, he is the first Hindu too," Duale stated.

Meanwhile, Raila, Makau Mutua's ally, was unsuccessful in his fifth stab at the presidency after he lost to President William Ruto.

The Azimio la Umoja coalition's attempts to seek legal grounds also bore no fruits, as their petitions were curtailed at the Supreme Court.

Raila, thereafter, launched an attack on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and Judiciary, claiming they were at fault for declaring and upholding Ruto's victory.
