A man who had been charged with the murder of a magistrate's 10-year-old daughter has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

The suspect was found guilty of killing the minor in the ruling made by the High Court in Chuka on Tuesday, October 24.

While sentencing the suspect, the judge stated that he was satisfied with the evidence presented by the prosecution lawyers.

"He was sentenced to 40 years imprisonment in the murder case which occurred in Meru in 2018," the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) announced.

The suspect was sentenced alongside one other individual who was accused of threatening to kill the deceased

"Despite being slapped with a jail term, the co-accused will not spend time behind bars.

"He was found guilty and was sentenced to five years imprisonment which he has already served since his arrest," the statement by the ODPP read in part.

The Class Four pupil at a school in Meru was found dead 10 days after being kidnapped.

Her body was discovered in Gitoru Forest with visible marks of physical assault.

During her funeral, the mother questioned the perpetrator's motive to injure an innocent young child.

"When you hit her and broke her legs, had she done anything wrong to you for her to deserve that?

"Didn't my daughter's cry for help never get to you? You will never find peace," she lamented.
