The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) wants a man accused of grabbing land belonging to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) apprehended.

In a statement dated Tuesday, October 25, EACC stated that the Kenya Military Base and watchtower land irregularly changed hands to private owners.

The parcel was part of 645 acres alienated from land belonging to the Mombasa International Airport (MIA) worth Ksh2.4 billion.

"Part of the Moi International Airport runway, a UN support base, and a Kenyan Military Base and its watchtower formed part of the land," the EACC wrote.

According to the commission, the looted public land was intentionally left out of the airport's boundary during a survey conducted by a former boss at the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) in 1991.

Acting without the knowledge of the board, the official then subdivided the parcel into 10 plots which were sold to individuals and companies in the private sector.

The original proprietors then sold the land to new owners, including some who made a fortune from compensation from the National Land Commission.

"EACC further seeks to recover Ksh984,393,705 being illegal compensation.

"The money was paid by the National Land Commission in respect to parcels of the land compulsorily acquired by the for the construction of the SGR and the Dongo - Kundu Kipevu Road Project in Mombasa," the statement read in part.

The anti-graft body wants the firms occupying the disputed land to be barred from accessing it.

In addition, they have asked the court to compel two former officials at NLC to pay back the government the Ksh984 million spent on the compensation.
