Governor Mutula Kilonzo, on Saturday, October 29, gifted Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Gachagua when she visited Makueni County to donate relief food.
Pastor Gachagua oversaw food distribution in three sub-counties; Makueni, Kibwezi East and Kibwezi East.
At the event, Governor Kilonzo gifted the pastor a basket full of fruits, an indication of hospitality by Makueni residents.
Mutula also promised to appoint church members to key committees.
‘In my government the church will play a central role, all ward committees will have a church official,’ promised the governor.
‘Even at budget economic forums, we want the church to play a central role,’ he added.
Mutula also outlined measures his government will take to mitigate drought in the region. Makueni is one of the counties severely ravaged by drought.
The governor wants to supply seeds (for various products) to every household and also invest heavily in mango production.
‘We are the largest producers of mangoes, we will find a market for that,’ he underlined.
The second lady prayed for rain in the region while thanking Mutula for the present.
'We want to thank our esteemed donors who are helping us with relief food, they have been generous with us," Pastor Gachagua stated.
She promised that both tiers of government will work to end the drought.
'Our country stands at a moment of crisis, the drought we are experiencing across the nation is the longest in the last 40 years, the people of Makueni know very well how devastating this drought has been. The national and county governments will work hand in hand to mitigate that,' she said.
