The Kenya Airports Authority has issued an advisory to passengers travelling to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and the Wilson Airport on Sunday, August 3.

In a notice, the authority revealed that several roads leading to the two airports had been closed and thus offered alternative routes to those who would be affected to facilitate the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) at the Nyayo National Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Among the roads to be affected are the Aerodrome Road, Lang'ata Road and Mombasa Road.

"Nairobi is today hosting a key match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), one of Africa's premier football tournaments," the statement read in part.

"To facilitate the smooth movement of teams, officials, and fans, and to enhance security around the match venue, several major roads in the city will be fully closed or partially restricted. Traffic disruptions are expected, affecting travel times to and from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Wilson Airport."

For users of Aerodrome Road, which will be fully closed from Madaraka roundabout to Bunyala roundabout, KAA recommended that they use Likoni-Enterprise Road or the Southern Bypass from Mombasa Road to CBD.

Commuters of Lang'ata Road, which will be closed on one side from Madaraka roundabout to Lusaka roundabout, have been advised to use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road from Lang'ata Road to the CBD.

Lastly, those travelling on Mombasa Road, which is closed on one side from Lusaka roundabout to Bunyala roundabout, have been recommended to use Limuru Road or Kiambu Road to travel from CBD to Thika Road, Ruiru, Juja and Thika.

From Thika Road, they have also been advised to use Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.

The authority further advised checking their flight schedules to ensure that they plan well ahead of time to avoid missing their flights as a result of using the alternative routes.

"Passengers are strongly urged to check flight schedules and allow for prolonged travel times to ensure timely arrival at JKIA or Wilson Airport," KAA relayed.

On August 1, CHAN issued a traffic advisory to facilitate the August 3 matches, which will see Harambee Stars face off against the Democratic Republic of Congo at the newly renovated Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) in Kasarani at 3 pm.
