Former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, on Wednesday, November 9, withdrew from the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) race.
Moi who unsuccessfully vied for the Baringo Senatorial race, pulled out of the race to allow other legislators to be nominated by Azimio la Umoja.
The KANU chairman's withdrawal was made public by party Secretary of Political Affairs Fred Okango.
"Moi has since withdrawn his candidature so as to give the opportunity to the other candidates. He wishes them the best of luck in their endeavours," Okango stated.
Moi was nominated for the EALA position alongside former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's daughter Winnie Odinga, former Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shahbal and former Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito.
Others who were featured on the list released by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Wednesday, November 9, included former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire and Former Turkana Water and Irrigation CEC Beatrice Askul.
While defending the nominated candidates, ODM stated that the process was overseen by top party officials who narrowed down on the six.
On the other side, the Kenya Kwanza faction nominated 15 members to the EALA positions. Among those featured in their nomination list were former nominated MP David Sankok and Hassan Omar, who unsuccessfully contested the Mombasa governor position in the August polls.
Others fronted by Kenya Kwanza side, which is led by President Wiliam Ruto, were Salim Busidy, Yasser Bajaber, Lilian Tomitom, Cyprian Iringo, Jonas Kuko, Abdikadir Aden and Falhadha Iman.
The two sides are jostling for only nine slots available for Kenya's delegation at the EALA.
Independent candidates are also allowed to go for the regional seats before a final verdict is made through a secret ballot.
The tenure of current EALA members is set to expire on December 17.
