A fire incident was on Wednesday, November 9, reported on the Nairobi Expressway.
The late afternoon explosion happened near the Standard Group on the busy road, with no official reports on casualties.
The accident caused heavy traffic on the Expressway and on Mombasa Road, as some of the lanes were closed, inconveniencing many motorists.
KTN News Anchor Zubeda Koome shared videos that showed smoke bellowing from the scene of the accident.
“Traffic is already building up on Mombasa Road,” Zubeda warned then.
Police officers rushed to the scene to control traffic flow by diverting motorists as they approached the area.
By the time of publishing this article, relevant authorities had not issued a statement on the cause of the accident and casualties.
Since the Nairobi Expressway was launched Saturday, May 2022, the road has witnessed a number of accidents, with some claiming lives.
On August 20, 2022, a private vehicle was involved in a road accident on the stretch linking Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the neighborhood of Rironi, in Kiambu County.
The car was headed towards Mlolongo from the Nairobi central business district direction when the accident happened.
It is unclear how the accident occurred, though a representative of Moja Expressway, told Journalists that the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed the metallic barrier.
On July 4, several people were injured after a public service vehicle belonging to the Embassava Sacco rammed a private vehicle on the Expressway.
According to police, the accident which happened at the Mlolongo Toll station exit, left at least 20 people injured.
