CCTV footage that was released moments after a tragic accident at Mlolongo toll station along the Nairobi Expressway on Monday, July 4 has revealed events surrounding the crash.

From the video, a mini bus belonging to Embassava Sacco is seen at high speed ramming into a white SUV car that was exiting the toll station.

At 7.07 pm time stamp, the bus crashed into the toll station before overturning.

The driver of the white SUV also lost control and hit a culvert next to the toll station before eventually overturning.

In a statement released by Moja expressway, the company responsible for maintaining the expressway, it was further indicated that the bus swerved before approaching the toll station.

It was also reported that a toll attendant was among scores of people who sustained different degrees of injuries before being  rushed to hospital.

"The matatu swerved severally while approaching the exit and unfortunately crashed into one toll booth and one SUV. We regrettably have one injured toll attendant who is receiving treatment while 22 out of the 33 passengers aboard the matatu sustained injuries.

"All casualties have been rushed to hospital for medical attention& are responding to treatment. Motorists are advised to avoid overspeeding and be cautious while on the road. Road safety starts with you," read the statement in part.

On the other hand, the police disclosed that they would investigate the matter to ascertain events surrounding the 7 pm crash.

The Monday night accident happened barely two weeks after another grisly crash that left one person dead.

During an accident on June 25 at the same toll station, a speeding motorist hit a toll station and other vehicles at the exit.

The driver of the speeding car lost his life while the toll attendant was taken to hospital having sustained injuries.

A section of Kenyans are blaming the accidents on the 27-km elevated road on design flaws.

"The Nairobi Expressway...are the accidents symptoms of design flaws?" Questioned city lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi.
