National Assembly speaker, Moses Wetangula, interrupted Suna West Member of Parliament (MP) Junet Mohamed and barred him from ridiculing a colleague whose wife withdrew her nomination as Principal Secretary.

Wetangula, on Thursday, November 11, ruled Junet out of order after he purported to empathise with the MP, George Kariuki, of Ndia Constituency.

Junet attempted to troll the MP's wife, Caroline Murage, who declined to be nominated as the PS in the State Department for Correctional Services under the Ministry of Interior.

The speaker had indicated that Murage wrote to President William Ruto requesting to be ejected from the list of PSs.

"As a member of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, I stand here to sympathize and empathise with my brother GK, the member of parliament for Ndia..." Junet stated before the interruption.

Wetangula interjected the lawmaker, questioning the relevance of the motion he was attempting to raise - which had tickled members present at the house sitting.

"Honourable Junet, you are totally out of order. Under what Standing Order do you extend sympathy and empathy to any member? Next order!" the Speaker ruled.

While issuing the Communication for the Chair, the former Bungoma Senator did not disclose reasons Murage cited for her withdrawal.

However, he noted that Ruto had replaced her with Mary Muthoni - the Women in Business chief executive officer. Muthoni will be vetted alongside 50 other nominees.

Kariuki was under fire over his wife's nomination to Ruto's government, with a section of critics openly asking him to convince his wife to reject the post.

In addition, they protested UDA's nomination of his close relatives as Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Kirinyaga and Kiambu counties.

All PS nominees will appear before the NA Vetting Committee from Monday, November 14.
