Rank of Counties Where Kenyans Can Cope With Harsh Economic Times [LIST]

Residents of Trans Nzoia county are the most financially healthy Kenyans, according to a report released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS)

In the 2022 FinAccess Household Survey Report released on Friday, November 11, it was noted that residents of the Western Kenya county meet their day-to-day needs as compared to other counties.

Trans Nzoia was ranked at the top with 37 per cent, closely followed by Nairobi at 35.3 per cent.

"Analysis of consumers’ life priorities and financial needs and how financial services are used to meet these needs and support their livelihoods for improved well-being at the county level reveal interesting outcomes about the impact dimension of financial inclusion.

Among the factors determined in the ranking was the ability of the residents to invest for the future.

"Financial health or well-being index, a composite index derived from the ability to manage day-to-day needs and ability to cope with shocks," read the report in part.

Other counties that made it to the top ten included Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kajiado, Nyeri, Siaya, Laikipia and Nyandarua.

The others in order were Taita Taveta ,Isiolo, Busia, Machakos, Bungoma, Wajir, Vihiga, Tharaka Nithi, Kericho, Nakuru, Lamu, West Pokot, Mandera, Kisumu, Baringo, Homa Bay, Migori, Embu, ,Mombasa and Elgeyo Marakwet 

Samburu, Bomet, Nandi, Narok, Kakamega, Nyamira, Meru, Uasin Gishu, Kitui and Kisii counties followed.

On the other hand, Garissa was ranked as the least financially healthy county, recording 2.4 per cent.

Other counties that registered below the 10 per cent mark were Kilifi at 9.5 per cent, Makueni at 9.0 per cent, Turkana at 6.1 per cent, Kwale at 4.9 per cent Marsabit and Tana River at 3.2 and 2.5 respectively. 

"Counties with the highest population that is formally included, recorded the largest proportion of adults that are categorized as financially healthy," read the report in part.

The FinAccess Household Survey Report is research undertaken between KNBS and the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

The report is released every two to three years.
