Omar's father confirmed that his son and the other four are being held in Mdoa village, Somalia.

Mohammed Omar Mgalla together with his colleagues have been held by Somali captors for two weeks, and is most likely facing health challenges.

"I am worried about my son. He has told me that they were arrested and their lives threatened.

They are even sleeping in the bush and are not allowed to leave the area until they pay the money [the employer is demanding]," Mzee Mgalla confirmed.

Mzee Mgalla who spoke to his son on phone, confirmed that the captors were asking for ransom from the families.

The family of Mohammed Omar has so far raised Ksh50,000, which he sent to his son but the captors have refused to release him.

The captors are demanding that the fishermen's employer pays for the boat and the humans.

"We quit the job because of insecurity issues. We would also be attacked and also have our fish snatched by Somali fishermen who claimed that it is their fish. We feared for our lives," he noted.

Kenyans have recently been targeted by Somali militants like Al Shabaab that have been conducting raids on Kenyan roads and waters.
