Kenyans will be granted an opportunity to engage with American philanthropist and business magnate Bill Gates during his Town Hall event at the University of Nairobi (UoN) slated for Thursday, November 17.
In a statement issued by the university, the chance was presented after a section of Kenyans online raised queries regarding the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
UoN pointed out that the registration is free and affirmed that the event would involve a virtual audience from various stakeholders across the world.
The tech mogul is slated to engage 500 students from the university in the conference to be moderated by former Citizen TV journalist Uduak Amimo.
The discussions will revolve around climate change and food security. The event will also feature discussions around the challenges and opportunities in food security and climate adaptation in Africa.
The hybrid event will include a live audience of 500 students from universities in Nairobi and a virtual audience of students from universities across the continent.
"The 60-minute moderated town hall format will focus on the challenges and opportunities in food security and climate adaptation in Africa," UoN stated.
Since his arrival on Tuesday, November 15, the American billionaire has been surrounded by tight security who monitor his every move. So guarded is the software techie that Kenyan law enforcement officers and a section of politicians have been blocked from meeting him.
During his visit, Gates's itinerary involved engaging health workers and local farmers to get a clear picture of the health crisis as well as the impact of climate change in the region.
During his meeting with Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior, discussions focused on how health workers cope with the challenges in the county and the possible solutions.
"We made a serious presentation on our healthcare workers and our budgets. He had a very keen interest in knowing how we cope with the problem of receiving only 50 percent of what we require from Kenya Medical Supplies Agency and how we plug in the gaps. He also wanted to understand the workings of community health volunteers,” Kilonzo stated.
