There are very many everyday items that we use on a daily basis without even knowing we may have been doing the wrong thing.

Here is a list of some of theses essential items that we interact with probably on a daily basis with features we don't even know their use.

The Hole on a Padlock

We probably interact with a padlock on a daily basis either to lock our houses or our business premises. Have you ever noticed the small hole in the lock button? Probably yes, but do you know its use?

Well, that hole is very important because it allows water that gets inside the padlock to drain easily. Most importantly, that hole is used to add oil to the lock if it doesn't get jammed up. Next time your padlock jams, try adding oil through the pinhole before turning to a saw.

Juice Box Flaps

If you have kids, you must have bought them some juice while at shopping in the supermarket. The flaps on the juice box are not wings for the box to fly. Neither are they there for beauty purposes as many may assume.

Those flaps are important because they are meant to make it easier for children to hold the box.

The Wooden Pasta Stick

Pasta is a common delicacy but it has similar behavior with milk. You turn your eye away for a moment and it makes a sticky mess of your cooking area with the water boiling over. However, the wooden pasta stick has more function than just turning the pasta while cooking.

You can prevent the water from boiling over and making a sticky mess by simply placing your wooden spoon across a pot of pasta. It is magical and super easy. When the bubbles come into contact with the dry water-repelling surface of the stick, the water retreats.

Different Colors on Erasers

Remember that primary school story about the blue part erases ink and the red part erasing pencil? Well, it was all a lie.

The paper artists use a thicker type of paper that's why they prefer an eraser with more sensitive friction. Therefore, the blue end of the eraser is meant for erasing pencil marks on heavy grades of paper or dark marks. No wonder the books used to tear whenever we tried using the blue part!

The Arrow on the Fuel Gauge

If you own a car, you probably don't need this hack because you already know where the fuel tank is on your car. However, I am sure you have come across hilarious videos of people going to fill up their fuel tank and not realizing on which side of the car their fuel tank is on. Probably the guys have hired the car.

Next time, when yo hire a car and want to avoid the embarrassment of popping up on the wrong side when you want to fuel it, check the arrow on the fuel gauge because it indicates where the fuel tank is located. If the arrow points to the right side, it means that the fuel tank is on the right side.

What other everyday items do you know that have hidden features that Kenyans probably don't know about? share in the comments!
