Narok senator, Ledama Ole Kina and Kabuchai member of parliament, Majimbo Kalasinga, warned their colleagues against impeaching Trade Cabinet Secretary, Moses Kuria.
Ledama, on Wednesday, November 23, argued that Kuria was following orders from above and was only a messenger in the maize fiasco.
According to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) politician, Kenyans were reaping the rewards of the August 9 General Election, where they elected William Ruto as President.
"Moses Kuria, CS trade was right! we are all candidates for death. There is no need to impeach him. He is only doing what he has been asked to do.
"Don’t kill the messenger. Kenya is a kleptocracy so don’t expect anything else. You made your choices enjoy the consequences," Ledama trolled Kenyans while citing Kuria's controversial remarks on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) being hazardous.
Speaking on a morning show on K24 TV, on Wednesday, November 23, Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga added that there was no proper reason behind Kuria’s ouster.
“I don't think GMO should be a reason why we are talking of impeachment. I don't understand why, looking at the current situation in Kenya it's too early, and let us understand why the minister has these reasons,” he stated.
Kalasinga dared the MPs to table their motion adding that the importation of maize would benefit Kenyans.
“In fact, if you want to impeach the minister for bringing in maize, go and write the report from the ground where people are dying,” he uttered.
Supporting Kuria’s, Kalasinga stated that other states have been using GMOs for an extended period without recording negative effects.
“We've had GMO products in the US for 30 years, and Australia is doing it now, so why can't we join the others. In fact, GMO foods are biodegradable and environmentally taken care of,” he noted.
He claimed that popcorn and yellow maize in the Kenyan market were a good example of GMOs that have been consumed for a while.
Led by Nandi senator, Samson Cherargei, MPs called for the removal of the Trade CS.
They indicated that the move would harm farmers in the country more as they were about to harvest enough maize to feed the nation. An influx of maize would thus lower the prices.
They also raised questions on a ship that docked at the Mombasa port bringing maize into the country without following legal procedures.
