KCPE 2022: Candidate Delivers Moments Before Maths Paper

An expectant candidate sitting the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination delivered hours before sitting her mathematics paper.

Education Director Salecio Maringe told the press on Monday, November 28, that the pupil gave birth at the Marimanti Hospital in Tharaka Nithi County.

Maringe confirmed that the new mother was in stable condition and that she chose to proceed with taking the Math exam from her hospital bed.

He revealed that arrangements have been made to have all her examination papers delivered to the hospital during the examination period.

According to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) timetable, the two-hour mathematics paper was scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.

She will then sit her English Language paper between 11:30 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. and will write her English Section B - Composition in the afternoon from 2 p.m.

The new mum will then sit her Science, Kiswahili Lugha, Kiswahili Insha, and Social Studies and Religious exams on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A report from the Ministry of Education indicated that at least 332 expectant pupils will sit the KCPE and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams.

On the other hand, 409 pregnant high school students are registered to undertake the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) national test.

Narok County recorded the highest number of expectant candidates:248. In 2020, 200 teen mothers sat the KCPE exams.

A total of 2.5 million primary school pupils will sit the exams beginning on Monday, November 28  including 1,244,188 (KCPE) and 1,287,597 (KPSEA).
