William Ruto

Heading to the August 9, General Elections, President William Ruto was in an exclusive list of Kenyan politicians who had never lost an election.

Others then included Naomi Shaban of Taveta Constituency and former senator George Khaniri.

Ruto maintained his perfect record by winning the presidential contest after garnering 7,176,651 with his closest rival Raila Odinga garnering 6,943,149.

Mutula Kilonzo Junior

The Makueni County Governor proved once again to be one of the most accepted politicians in Kenya.

He was elected with a total of 76.15 per cent of the total votes cast.

In 2013, he set a personal best by garnering 90.5% of the total votes cast to become the second senator for Makueni County after the death of his father Mutula Kilonzo Senior.

Moses Wetangula

Moses Wetangula set the record of being one of the longest-serving politicians in Kenya when he was elected as Bungoma senator in the August 9 elections.

Wetangula who later resigned to contest for National Assembly speaker joined politics in 1992.

He was nominated as a KANU MP by former president Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi after the 1992 general election.

While he stayed in the political cold between 1997-2002, he won the 2002 Sirisia Constituency parliamentary race.

He served in that capacity until 2013 when he became the first senator for Bungoma county, a position he held until September 8, 2022, when he was elected as speaker of the National Assembly.

Musalia Mudavadi

Musalia Mudavadi was unsuccessful in his political conquest for 20 years apart from 2007-2013 when he was elected as Member of Parliament for Sabatia Constituency.

Musalia who first joined politics in 1989 lost his Sabatia parliamentary race in 2002.

He regained the seat in 2007 but in 2013 he was in political cold after he unsuccessfully vied for the presidency. In 2017, he was out of Government again after supporting Raila Odinga.

The former vice president made a political comeback after he successfully supported William Ruto for president. For his efforts, he was rewarded with a Prime Cabinet Secretary position.

Khamis Abdi Chome

Khamis made history in Kenya after he won the Voi parliamentary seat after a 25-year wait.

Chome, through a Wiper Party ticket, defeated incumbent Jones Mlolwa of Jubilee who got 8,426 votes and other 9 contestants.

Chome first vied in 1997 under Kenya Africa National Union (KANU). In 2002, he vied for the same post under National Rainbow Coalition. He vied again in 2007 with Orange Democratic Movement-Kenya and in 2013 under TNA. He was unsuccessful every time until his win in 2022.
