Most companies close for December holiday to allow employees time with their families. This usually accords many days that could run into months of uninterrupted time with spouses, children and other loved ones.

For parents, it is usually time to reconnect with children, play with them, travel, bond and counsel them, before another marathon kicks in in January.

But parenting is not as easy as it sounds, especially when dealing with children of different ages. The responsibility is even more complex when you are bring up toddlers.

However, your duty as a parent has no off-days and does not come with a manual most of the time. So, how do you keep your toddlers safe during this holiday period? Kenyans.co.ke has compiled a list of top five parenting tips that will give you a hand with your toddlers at home.

Lost and Found Tattoo

Losing your child is one of the scariest moments a parent can go through and can easily ruin your holidays and your life as a parent forever. However, with the lost and found tattoo, you can rest assured that when your child gets lost whether in the city or away while upcountry, they can easily be found.

The tattoo can be as simple as your number on the child’s hand with the inscription Ïf lost, please call…” accompanying it. Furthermore, tattooists can make use of temporary ink that is equally skin safe.

It is important that there is always a point of contact when travelling, heading into large crowds at amusement parks, or on field trips.

Save the Toilet Paper

Having just learnt how to use the toilet seat, toddlers are often experimenting and the next experiment is always on how much toilet paper they can use. It is not strange to find a toddler going to the toilet just to play with the toilet paper.

However, with the tough economic times upon us, maybe it is time to reign in on their curiosity and save the toilet paper in the process.

You can start by making a line on the wall to help potty-training kids know how much toilet paper to pull. This can be enhanced by clipping the toilet paper roll to the cardboard with a large office clip and putting the roll in so you have to pull the paper upward to unravel it, making the unravelling task a little more difficult for a little toddler.

Chart the Dosage

Changes in weather and climate, especially if you are travelling this holiday, often come with a lot of health challenges for children under five years of age considering their immunity is still developing.

However, with the many activities you are likely to engage in while on holiday, it is highly likely to forget when you last gave them medication or how much it was.

This hack is therefore meant to help you keep track of how you give your kid medication prescribed by a medical doctor whenever they fall sick.

Keep the Doors Unlocked

It is difficult to keep track of what kids are doing while in their rooms. Some kids usually want their doors locked so that they can engage in their games in private.

However, if you want to keep an eye on your kid without necessarily reminding them from time to time to keep their doors open, you need to implement this hack.

If the door has a lock, tape the lock-in so that the door does not close. This will help you ensure that the door to their room is always open and you know where the toddler is at all times.

Tape Down the Edges

On average, a two-year-old toddler falls 38 times a day. While some of their falls are unavoidable, you have an opportunity to help them avoid some falls caused by tripping on things like carpets.

Taping the edges of carpets down is critical to preventing falls among toddlers. This is because it prevents them from tripping on the edges of the carpets and falling over.
