President William Ruto's loyalists were, on Friday, December 16, rewarded with positions at the country’s power distributor.

Among those elected to the Kenya Power board were lawyers Joy Brenda Masinde (daughter of Televangelist Bishop JB Masinde), Duncan Ojwang, and Logan Hambrick, who played a key role in the election of President William Ruto.

Duncan Ojwang was a fierce critic of Ruto's political rival, Raila Odinga, in the run-up to the August elections. He appeared on various media spaces poking holes at the Azimio La Umoja campaign.

Former Kengen Managing Director Albert Mugo was as well named to the board.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Prof Njuguna Ndung'u replaced cabinet secretary Ukur Yatani, whereas Permanent Secretary (PS) Alex Wachira took over from his predecessor Gordon Kihalangwa.

Former Nairobi County Executive Committee Member Veska Kangogo was also elected as the Kenya Power board director.

Kangongo unsuccessfully ran for the Uasin Gishu UDA ticket for the governor's seat in the concluded 2022 General Election.

Vivienne Yeda was kicked out as board chairman, while former retired justice Aaron Ringera garnered 63,460,567 votes.

Yeda was appointed the chairman of the Board on 13th November 2020.

Equally, former directors defending their positions on the board were kicked out in a major surgery by shareholders on Friday, December 16.

A statement from Kenya Power on Saturday, December 17, revealed that Kangogo garnered 980,732,882 votes to become one of the seven directors.

Others were National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njoroge Ndung'u (1,044,813,650) and his Energy counterpart Alex Wachira who garnered 1,044,859,288.
