The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has announced that dry weather conditions will continue to be experienced in most parts of the country.
In the weekly forecast released on Monday, January 2, the weatherman stated that most parts of the country will remain sunny and dry.
Kenyans will experience very hot days and very cold nights in the week between January 3 - 9.
"The outlook for January 2023 indicates that most parts of the country will experience dry weather conditions. The average daytime maximum temperatures are likely to be moderate between 20 and 30 degrees Celcius.
"Minimum night temperatures are likely to be less than 10 degrees Celcius over some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley," the statement read in part.
The majority of the parts in Western, North Rift, and North Eastern regions will receive a mean of between zero to 20 milimetres of rainfall within the period.
However, more rain will fall in the Eastern part of Rift Valley, South-Eastern lowlands and the Coast region. Afternoon showers will be experienced in the aforementioned regions.
On December 31, Kenya Met explained that the dry conditions will worsen the food crises in some of the Arid and Semi-Arid Land (ASAL) regions.
It further called upon the national and local governments and humanitarian organizations to act swiftly to avert drought-related deaths. and loss of livelihoods.
Water reservoirs also face the risk of drying up. Consequently, the government has been asked to monitor water levels in hydroelectric dams to ensure electricity production is not affected.
The weatherman warned that the reduced water levels may spark human-wildlife conflict over the scarcity of water.
Kenyans have also been asked to brace for heat-related discomforts such as heat stress, headaches, and fatigue.
