Pastor Jared Omwoyo from Nyamira Conference Headquarters SDA Church has broken his silence after a clip of him chasing away a team of bridesmaids for not belonging to his church and dressing indecently went viral
In an interview with the press on Monday, January 2, the man of cloth clarified that the wedding was of an old couple legalising their marriage noting that it didn't need a complicated ceremony.
“Nowadays these people want to have a wedding as if they are a young couple. At times we allow them but unfortunately, the wedding was to start at 11 am but at 3 pm, it had not started,” he stated.
The pastor further explained that the late timing was not was not the main cause of his disruption at the wedding but was provoked by the marching maids and men.
“The big issue came about when they started marching. They disturbed the matron and he was an SDA member. I called the matching squad and I was shocked to see men having plaited dreadlocks.
“Ladies were in earrings, lipsticks and other ornaments. On questioning them, they started arguing with me,” he added.
The pastor explained that he was annoyed by the dress code he termed as indecent which then made him lose his cool.
Omwoyo further hit out at the individual behind the viral clip accusing them of harbouring a motive of tainting his image as she did not show the specific people who made him angry.
“She skipped that part so that I could be judged. I have never chased anyone from a wedding in the past. I asked about their religions and surprisingly, there was no one from our church,” he expounded.
After the wedding, the bridesmaids faulted pastor Omwoyo for causing unnecessary drama stating that they had interacted in the past and that he could have stopped them from participating in the wedding earlier on.
The SDA church later issued an apology through a fan page concerning the pastor's act.
“We would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Kenyans who might feel that our pastor chased them from our church. Maybe he was angered and took the matter out of proportion. We love you all and welcome you all to our churches. SDA church is for us all,” the statement read.
