American singer and grammy award winner, Madonna Louise Ciccone (Madonna), alongside her children, created a mural of broken glass in Kibera.
The art, she indicated, was a gesture that honoured Kennedy Odede of Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO), which helps children living in the slums of Kibera.
"We are very impressed with his work and his commitment to this community and excited to continue working with him and his wife Jessica," the 64-year-old musician shared the progress on Instagram on Tuesday, January 3.
This colourful mural depicted one tree, projected as the tree of life, and two people sitting under it.
Madonna also visited other areas of the organisation, including the school, the women empowerment centre, and other parts of the slum posing with the residents.
She was warmly received by the residents who gave her a tour of Kibera. In the video shared, Madonna poses next to a boda boda.
Furthermore, she engages the kids in a dance session.
According to Madonna, SHOFCO has stopped gender-based violence by empowering women, taking legal action, and giving them a safe space to rebuild their lives.
Additionally, it has made access to loans easier for men and women to start businesses.
Odede created the organisation while living in the slums of Nairobi. He sought to improve the lives of families living in challenging conditions.
He is also a New York Times best-selling author of Find Me Unafraid: Love, Hope, and Loss in and Loss in an African Slum, co-written with his wife and partner, Jessica Posner Odede.
