Cabinet Secretaries attending a three-day Cabinet retreat organised by President William Ruto at the Fairmont Mt. Kenya Safari Club in Laikipia County have highlighted their packed itinerary for the event.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, January 5, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi explained that the retreat was important to help the cabinet strategise on their five-year plan.
He stated that the team was using the retreat to develop a unified strategy to heighten the working relationship of the Cabinet Secretaries and their Principal Secretaries.
"We now want to put politics behind us. We cannot be talking all the time. The time has come when Kenyans want to see us perform our duties accordingly.
"We do not want a situation where anybody feels like they are not concerned with what is happening in other ministries. That is not a government," he stated.
On her part, Water CS, Alice Wahome revealed that the CSs would be trained on the workings of the government to induct the first-time appointees.
She added that the training would help them effectively implement government projects.
From videos shared by Presidential Strategic Communications Unit (PSCU) and seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the high-ranking government officials were trained in leadership as senior civil servants shared their experiences.
"We want to critically strategise on how we shall be able to implement our pledges to Kenyans who voted for us. We will also be trained on how the government works because some of us are from the private sector," she stated.
Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi hinted that the retreat would incorporate a discussion on the current high cost of living that has pushed many Kenyans below the poverty line.
He stated that the issue of food security was at the heart of Ruto's manifesto given that 30 per cent of the promises were on Agriculture.
Linturi's sentiments were echoed by Mudavadi who called on Kenyans to exercise patience noting that reversing the economy would take time.
Ruto arrived at the retreat Thursday evening. He was accompanied by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Also present at the meeting was retired Chief Justice David Maranga. Maraga was appointed in December 2022 to head a taskforce looking at reforms at the National Police Service (NPS).
