Four policemen were on Monday, January 9 arrested after they attempted to rob Ksh2 million from businessmen who had withdrawn the money from a bank.
The two businessmen were leaving a local bank along the busy Mama Ngina street within the Nairobi Central Business District.
According to a police report, the two men were confronted by the police officers, who claimed that they were under arrest for an offence that they did not disclose.
"While along standard Street they were confronted by four men who claimed to be police officers and informed them that they were after the bag containing the money and that they were wanted for an offence which the policemen did not disclose," the police report read in part.
Alarmed, one of the businessmen alerted a security guard and Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) officers guarding another building.
Security officers rushed to the scene alerting a manager from the forex bureau close by who then secured the bag that had the money.
The suspects, who were in a white car, arrested the two men stating that they were taking them to the DCI headquarters.
Other police officers intercepted the vehicle along Muthaiga area after a report was made by the manager with the description of the vehicle.
The vehicle was impounded by the police at the Regional Police Headquarters in Nairobi and Investigations launched into the incident.
The four officers were taken into custody at the Nairobi Central Police Station.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), on Tuesday, January 10, warned Kenyans of the rising cases of criminals donning police uniforms to confuse unsuspecting Kenyans before robbing them of their valuables.
DCI noted that in another incident on Monday, January 9, a group of five men ambushed a man heading home and stole his phone and other valuables.
