"There is a crash involving many vehicles at Thika town near a local police station and emergency response is needed. Kindly National Police Service and Kenya Red Cross Society respond accordingly," shared a concerned road user.

Luckily no casualties were reported from the incident. The driver, tout, and pedestrian were rushed to the nearby medical center for treatment.

The clip also showed area residents gathered at the scene of the accident to help in the rescue operation as they awaited the relevant authorities to arrive.

From the images shared online, the Mercedes was damaged the most. Its bonnet was dismantled as well as some of the headlights.

Additionally, the bonnet of the sky-blue Peugeot was wrecked while the Toyota Harrier and Vitz had damaged headlights.

Motorists have been urged to exercise caution while on the road to reduce the number of fatalities.

According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the number of casualties recorded between January 2022 and December 13, 2022, increased to 4,432 from 4,271 in the same period in 2021.

NTSA detailed that some of the measures put in place to curb the accidents include liaison with stakeholders and other partners to bring sanity to the roads as well as implementing driving school rules.

The authority emphasised on road safety awareness and civic education noting, "This will involve sensitisation of drivers and passengers and mainstreaming road safety in the National school curriculum."
