Homa Bay Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma on Wednesday, January 11 listed 10 demands and concerns of the people in his backyard ahead of President William Ruto's visit.

Ruto is expected to start an extensive tour of Luo Nyanza counties on Friday, January 13, 2023.

Kaluma in his statement revealed that Ruto would be received by local leaders to present other needs to him.

"President Williams Ruto is set to visit Nyanza this Friday. He's welcome. Local leaders will be at hand to receive him and present the needs and concerns of the people," read the statement.

Kaluma in his 10-point demands communicated that the residents needed infrastructure funding and land extension for the Tom Mboya University further urging the fast-tracking of the Kabunde Airstrip.

He further listed the concerns of the people including; Water provision and sewerage system in Homa Bay Town, Homa Bay County Referral Hospital Elevation, Homa Bay Town Constituency TVET and Lake Victoria Ring Road construction.

This will be Ruto’s second tour to the Nyanza region, since his inauguration in September 2023.

Late in December 2022, Siaya Governor James Orengo intimated that he was ready to work with President William Ruto’s administration, but with conditions.

Orengo opined that he would welcome Ruto if he toured Siaya, but insisted he would only embrace the move if he avoids politicising development.

“The president is free to come to Siaya at any time, and if he comes for development then I will receive him because county and national government are interdependent and should cooperate,” he affirmed.

“Declaring to work with the government of the day is not news and those purporting to support the government in order to get development projects should understand what the Constitution says,” the county boss added.

When he visited Homabay in October, Ruto pledged to transform the fishing industry, the cotton sub-sector and several infrastructural projects including roads and water.

He also committed to working with Nyanza and pledged that no region across the country would be left behind.

Ruto too extended an olive branch to Azimio leader Raila Odinga, saying he will take care of him and former President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure they are respected.
