Former Bahati Member of Parliament (MP) Kimani Ngunjiri on Thursday, January 12, revealed President William Ruto offered him a Cabinet Secretary position in the current Kenya Kwanza government.

While responding to questions on why he was yet to receive any appointments to senior positions in Ruto's administration, Ngunjiri clarified that he is not more special than those who were given the chance to serve.

The former Bahati MP noted that he turned down a ministerial post offer from Ruto when he unveiled his Cabinet members.

"It is not a must for me and Arap Kirwa to be in government, because we were not born to be in government and die in government.

"The President had offered me to be a minister but I refused, I said no, I want a lesser seat," he explained.

Ngunjiri divulged that he requested the president to give him a less demanding job instead of a Cabinet Secretary position.

According to Ngunjiri, who lost his seat after August 2022 polls, Ruto is a workaholic leader that will soon transform the country into a prosperous nation.

"The President is very hardworking and I knew the people who will work with him are going to have it tough.

"At 6 in the morning, he is in the office, how many people will go to the office at that time?" Ngunjiri asked.

Ngunjiri also confirmed that he resigned from active politics after losing his Bahati constituency seat in the last general election.

"My life is not only in politics, and I decided even if I lost the election, I would not do politics again because of my age.

"I had a lot of problems with the then President (Uhuru Kenyatta) and the governor (Lee Kinyanjui) at that time," he confirmed.

He lost to Jubilee Party's Irene Njoki, who garnered 34,308 against Ngnjiri's 26,809 votes.

The third candidate, Quindos Karanja garnered 2,130 votes in the August 2022 General Election.
