Political commentator and analyst Herman Manyora on Monday, January 16 intimated that the opposition’s reception of President William Ruto was that of a compromised outfit.

Speaking on NTV,  Manyora wondered how a few months ago, the opposition was on an onslaught rejecting the presidential results but suddenly was rolling the red carpet for Ruto.

"You wouldn’t think people like Orengo would roll out the red carpet for a man they believe didn’t win the election,” he opined

It’s either these people are playing games with the president or these guys have been compromised,” he added.

Equally, Dr Sam Mbutu a lecturer at the University of Nairobi disclosed that Ruto’s move was a ploy for 2027.

“Perhaps the President is trying to lay ground for 2027 by being friendly to Nyanza,” he stated.

“However, it was baffling when Orengo challenged Ruto to have a sit down with Raila, what could have prompted him to do that?” he paused.

On whether Odinga has lost his influence in the Nyanza region, Manyora disagreed.

"Raila hasn’t lost grip of the Nyanza region. It is either Nyanza has been compromised or they are being strategic, it cannot be any other way," he remarked.

On January 14, Siaya Governor James Orengo appealed to Ruto to work together with Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga to foster unity and development in the country.

Orengo urged President Ruto to sit with the opposition chief in the spirit of togetherness and not necessarily that of the handshake.

"Mr President I ask you, not in the spirit of the handshake, but in the spirit of togetherness, to sit together on the table of brotherhood with Raila Odinga because the elections are over, for the good of Kenyans," stated Orengo.

Ruto's visit got a warm reception from Luo Nyanza leaders with Homa Bay senator Moses Kajwang' on Friday explaining that while they differed with him politically, matters of development had united them.

"Your Excellency, there are many things we agree on and a few that we cannot agree. Today as leaders from this region we have decided to focus on the things that we agree on and those things are centred on development,” he opined.
