Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's allies demanded the formation of a commission of inquiry to investigate an alleged murder plot against former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

In a statement dated Tuesday, January 17, Narok Senator Ledama Olekina asserted that the claims by President William Ruto were serious allegations and needed to be uncovered.

He added that the inquiry must also cover past elections where other electoral officials had lost their lives under mysterious circumstances.

"Mr President, to end all conspiracy theories and the talk on the IEBC debacles, let’s cut to the chase! Set up a commission of inquiry and extend it to cover the last two elections," he stated.

On his part, Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando expressed that an investigation into the allegations would help clean up the country's electoral system.

"President Ruto's resolve that crooks who plotted to kidnap and kill  IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati be punished deserves support. Ahead,  kidnappers and murderers of IEBC's Chris Msando should be nailed," he stated.

However, Emabakasi East MP Babu Owino opined that the President needed to refrain from focusing on the 2022 elections and help the country move forward.

He maintained that Chebukati oversaw a bungled election and that it did not reflect the will of the people.

"Can the President and Chebukati stop making noise to Kenyans about the past election? It is water under the bridge. It is time to stop singing and start swinging. Work for the people of Kenya," the legislator expressed.

Ruto had alleged that there was a plot to abduct and murder Chebukati prior to the announcement of the presidential election results.

He claimed that the move was aimed at crippling the Commission and delaying the announcement of the results.

However, ODM and Sifuna criticised the President over the allegations as they called on him to provide proof of the same.

Meanwhile, a tribunal led by Justice Aggrey Muchelule is expected to continue with its probe on the fallout of commissioners during the polls.

At the centre of the probe are former commissioners Julian Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyang'aya and Commissioner Irene Masit.
