A woman in Kiambu County is counting her losses after she claimed that her daughter splashed the family's Ksh2 million savings on merrymaking with friends.
According to Derrick Mbugua, who shared the plight of the woman online, she went to Saudi Arabia for nine years in a bid to make ends meet.
During that time, she reportedly sent cash to her daughter to take care of her younger brother and also rented them a house in Kiambu Town.
According to the mother, her daughter kept assuring her that the money was safe in her account- amounting close to Ksh2 million.
The mother, however, resorted to relocating back to the country due to the nature of work in Saudi Arabia.
"My daughter was later blessed with a grandson. I pay for a private school for my son and grandson. I came back because I couldn't continue staying and working in Saudi Arabia due to my age and nature of work," read part of the Facebook post.
"Nine years I have been sending money to my daughter and she kept assuring me that the money was very safe in her account almost Ksh2 million. After coming back in December, I realised she looked very worried and disturbed," she added.
According to the woman, her daughter spent the better part of her savings treating her friends. To add to the woes, the daughter placed a Ksh500,000 deposit to acquire a Ksh1.25 million car on loan.
In the agreement with a local bank, the remaining Ksh750,000 would be paid in 12 monthly installments of Ksh62,500 each. The daughter reportedly placed the car under taxi-hailing applications, but only earned Ksh10,000 in the first three months.
The mother lamented that the woes rendered her almost penniless, especially with schools resuming on Monday, January 23.
"Three months down the line she only received Ksh10,000 from her friend driver who has been using the car in a taxi-hailing application. The driver told her there is no business. The boyfriend advised her to take the car and they parked it till it was repossessed.
"The company has told me to deposit Ksh380,000 for them to give back the car. I am so stressed and depressed as schools are opening and I don't have fees. I had planned to start a business here in Kiambu and also pay for school for my children, as we speak even money to buy food is a problem," the mother lamented.
The 42-year-old, who felt aggrieved about the situation, stated that she felt helpless owing to the fact that her daughter kept making apologies about the incident
"She keeps saying she is sorry but what do I do? All my energy and sacrifices have gone like that. My own daughter has done this to me I don't know what to do. I am confused," she stated.
